COMMUNICATION

Sustainable consumption and production is such a cross-cutting topic that it can be challenging to know where to begin. But that hasn’t stopped many from developing effective policies and practices.

Sustainable consumption and production is happening all over the world, and this mid-term magazine showcases inspiring examples from throughout the One Planet Network.

ONE PLANET NETWORK WEBSITE

In working across so many sectors, regions, organizations, and initiatives, the massive potential of sustainable consumption and production could get lost in the noise. The One Planet platform gives its global community – the One Planet network – the tools to align around a common approach and make sustainable consumption and production more visible, concrete, and real for everyone. The website’s more than 4,000 members provide information about hundreds of projects and resources, allowing people and organizations to share, connect, and act with a more unifiedvoice towards achieving SDG 12 and the overall Sustainable Development Agenda.

TOOLS

NATIONAL FOCAL POINTS TOOLKIT

In 2017, the 10 Year Framework of Programmes published a Toolkit for National Focal Points. It contains essential information for policy-makers on how sustainable consumption and production relates to key global challenges, along with tips to support their national initiatives.

The Toolkit also provides policy-makers with examples of successfulprojects, and information on how to take part in and benefit from activities in the network.

INDICATORS OF SUCCESS

You can’t manage what you can’t measure… so monitoring the shift to sustainable consumption and production (SCP) across sectors, organizations and countries is critical. One Planet’s monitoring and reporting framework, Indicators of Success, is key to identifying trendsand strategic gaps, replicating innovative and effective practices, fostering collaboration, and demonstrating benefits of SCP. In additionto providing an overview of approaches and solutions, it supports One Planet partners in assessing and improving their performance, allocating funds, showing accountability to donors, communicating their resultsand increasing political and financial support.

VISION

ONE PLAN FOR ONE PLANET: STRATEGY 2018 TO 2022

It’s been five years since the 10 Year Frameworkof Programmes on sustainable consumption and production was adopted at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development.

Building on the experience and progress of these first five years, One Plan for One Planet: 2018-2022 defines a common vision, outlines commonobjectives, strategic principles and approaches across the One Planet network, and provides a clear way to implement the shift to sustainable consumption and production and achieve SDG12.

NATIONAL ACTIONS

NATIONAL CASE STUDIES

Shifting to sustainable consumption and production at scale requires national policies to create the right environments, social and physical infrastructures and rules for healthy markets. This year, 71 countries plus the European Union reported more than 300 policies supporting the national implementation of the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns.
